Every organisation, regardless of size, sector or location depends in some way on the natural environment. Those with responsibility for land management have a direct impact on biodiversity. The Biodiversity Benchmark provides a framework within which an organisation can ensure that its impact is as positive as possible.

The Wildlife Trusts’ Biodiversity Benchmark is the only standard that certifies the management of your business site for wildlife. Landowning businesses can be a positive force for nature’s recovery and we want to recognise and celebrate those businesses which have achieved excellence.

Nature-based solutions address societal challenges by restoring and managing ecosystems to benefit both people and the environment. The Wildlife Trusts work with nature-based solutions in a number of ways.

We are in the middle of a climate and nature emergency, and the two are inextricably linked. Climate change is driving nature’s decline, and the loss of wildlife and wild places leaves us ill-equipped to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to change.

Devon Wildlife Trust works with farmers, communities, and other partners to protect and restore nature and to build the resilience of farmed landscapes in the face of climate change.

The UK’s peatland soils store around 3.2 billion tonnes of carbon, but are heavily degraded and release the equivalent of 23 million tonnes of CO2 every year. Restored peatlands can capture more carbon, reduce flooding, clean our water, and allow wildlife to thrive.

The Wildlife Trusts are in the early stages of exploring how we might offer biodiversity credits to our national partners.
